چکیده

In this paper, we assess the performance of 10 Gb/s dispersion managed soliton communication systems using an analytical approach. The benefits of enhanced power solitons over conventional solitons are carefully evaluated. It is shown that transmission beyond 10 Mm is possible using an appropriate dispersion map, without any additional soliton control technique. An optimum path-average dispersion is identified for a particular dispersion managed system, and its performance is compared to a uniform dispersion system with similar characteristics.

Impact of Dispersion Fluctuations on 40-Gb/s Dispersion-Managed Lightwave Systems

We study numerically the impact of random dispersion fluctuations on the performance of 40-Gb/s dispersion-managed lightwave systems designed using either the chirped return-to-zero or the soliton format and employing backward-pumped distributed Raman amplification. We consider two-section dispersion maps with 2 = 4 and 8 ps km and show that the parameter decreases rapidly in both cases as the ...

Gb / s soliton transmission in a densely dispersion - managed ber in the presence of variable dispersion and polarization - mode dispersion

One of the major limitations on transmission speed per single-channel in dispersion-managed soliton (DMS) systems is soliton interactions between neighboring pulses induced by large pulse breathing within one dispersion-management period [1]. To o vercome this limitation, densely dispersion-managed soliton (DDMS) system was recently proposed, and it is numerically demonstrated that 80 Gb/s soli...

Optics and Photonics 1 Dispersion Managed Solitons and Polarization Mode Dispersion

Communication systems utilizing dispersion managed solitons, still may not be deployed in spite of their excellent potential performance, because “linear propagation” using wavelength multiplexing has made enormous progress. However, bit-rates in individual channels are pushed upward, 40 Gb/s being under development. At high bit-rates, polarization mode dispersion (PMD) affects linear propagati...

Experimental and Theoretical Characterization of a 40-Gb/s Long-Haul Single-Channel Transmission System

We present a comparison between experiment and simulation of a 40-Gb/s periodically stationary dispersion-managed soliton (DMS) system in a recirculating loop. We find that we can propagate an error-free signal over 6400 km at 40 Gb/s and over 12 000 km if we lower the data rate to 10 Gb/s, keeping all other parameters constant. A careful analysis of the limiting factors shows the strong influe...

Simulation of Single - Channel Optical Systems at 100 Gb / s

With the help of a computer simulation, we have investigated the conditions under which the transmission of light pulses through optical fibers may be possible over thousands of kilometers at a bit rate of 100 Gb/s. Employing an amplifier spacing of only 20 km, nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ), return-to-zero (RZ), and dispersion-managed solitons (DMS’s) may all be useful provided that certain additiona...
